How Kate helped the Royal Family find its groove

In the year since she got married, she's been spotted pushing a cart in the grocery store parking lot and walking with her new dog in the park.

She's been seen browsing through pillows and bed linens in a department store and bought her husband black boxer shorts for Valentine's Day.

Ordinary enough, you could say, for pretty much anyone.

Except in this case, it's the Duchess of Cambridge.

While there have been those glimpses of everyday life, there have also been pictures of Kate — in Canada and elsewhere — looking glamorous and every inch a member of the Royal Family she joined with her marriage to Prince William on April 29, 2011.

5 Mind-Bending Facts About Dreams

When your head hits the pillow, for many it's lights out for the conscious part of you. But the cells firing in your brain are very much awake, sparking enough energy to produce the sometimes vivid and sometimes downright haunted dreams that take place during the rapid-eye-movement stage of your sleep.

Why do some people have nightmares while others really spend their nights in bliss? Like sleep, dreams are mysterious phenomena. But as scientists are able to probe deeper into our minds, they are finding some of those answers.

Best asparagus recipes and why you shouldn't snap the ends off

I once co-hosted a baby shower on my sister's farm in Niagara, Ontario. At the very last moment, the mom-to-be was unable to attend. With a backyard full of women with nothing to do, my sister asked if anyone wanted to see the asparagus garden. The group of us, ranging in age from six to 85 years old, trekked half a kilometre into their property.

When we came upon the garden, it was like nothing I had ever seen: a 300-square-foot patch covered in asparagus spears. They shot up randomly with each spear unique in shape and size. We rolled up our pants and armed with sharp knives and wicker baskets, harvested enough for everyone to go home with a suppers-worth.

Those fancy flip-flops might be hurting your feet. Those fancy flip-flops might be hurting your feet.By Deborah Wilburn

Spring is here, and so are chic ballet flats, flip-flops, and sky-high platform sandals. They're comfortable shoes, and trendy, too, but are they good for your feet?

Not so much, says Dawn Olsen Figlo, MD, a certified foot surgeon in New York City. Even though many women think flats are a foot-friendly alternative, "ballet slippers are the worst shoe anyone can wear," she says. "There's no support whatsoever and the ankle can turn in too much or turn out."

The numbers are taken from a report by automotive researchers Polk, who studied the habits of 75,000 hybrid owners in the market for a new car.

Experts say New Zealand woman's 2-gallon-a-day Coca-Cola habit likely contributed to death

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Experts say a New Zealand woman's 2-gallon-a-day Coca-Cola habit probably contributed to her death, a conclusion that led the soft-drink giant to note that even water can be deadly in excessive amounts.

Natasha Harris, a 30-year-old, stay-at-home mother of eight from Invercargill, died of a heart attack in February 2010. Fairfax Media reported that a pathologist, Dr. Dan Mornin, testified at an inquest Thursday that she probably suffered from hypokalemia, or low potassium, which he thinks was caused by her excessive consumption of Coke and overall poor nutrition.

The child disappeared on the way to school on the morning of May 25, 1979. It was the first time he was allowed to walk the two blocks to the bus stop alone.

Eating too much sugar can make you look old

Would you consider cutting down on sugar for the sake of beauty? New research links high blood sugar levels with looking older. (Credit: Thinkstock)Sugar is not so sweet after all. A new study out of the Netherlands shows that high blood sugar levels make people look older.

Researchers from the Leiden University Medical Center and Unilever in the U.K. showed photos of over 600 women and men aged 50 to 70 to a group of independent assessors.

Those with higher blood-sugar levels looked older. For every millimole per litre increase in blood sugar, the person was perceived to be five months older. The normal blood sugar range is from five to eight millimoles per litre, two hours after eating. And, predictably, the diabetics in the group came across as the oldest.

Earth Usually Has More than One Moon, Study Suggests

Earth usually has more than one moon at any given time, according to the results of a new computer simulation.

The huge, bright and iconic moon so beloved by poets and romantics is joined by a rotating cast of captured asteroids that often measure just a few feet across. These mini-moons typically orbit Earth for less than a year before zipping back off into space, researchers said.

The scientists used a French supercomputer to simulate the movements of 10 million near-Earth asteroids as they passed by our planet. They then tracked the trajectories of the 18,000 space rocks that Earth's gravity captured in the simulation.

What's happening?

The term "tic" in medicine can mean any number of involuntary things your body does. In this case, we're talking about those annoying little muscle twitches you get in your eye or other parts of your body, such as your knee, that bug you for a day or two for seemingly no reason. "A muscle is firing under your skin, because you are in a state of excitement or stress," explains Jeffrey Cain, M.D., president-elect of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the chief of family medicine at Children's Hospital Colorado in Denver.

In an interview with iTV's "Daybreak" to promote "Titanic 3-D," she was asked how she and co-star Leonardo DiCaprio have changed since the original film's 1997 release and she was quite frank in her answer. "We do look very different, we're older," Winslet explained. "Leo's 37, I'm 36 — we were 21 and 22 when we made that film. You know, he's fatter now — I'm thinner."

Homes inspired by nature

While some homeowners see their abodes as shelter from the elements, others want to embrace nature and invite it inside. Some homes are designed with prominent features that bring the outdoors in.

This is not simply a matter of throwing together a few house plants, or including lots of windows and sliding glass doors or planning for a stone accent wall or some exposed wooden beams. Some homeowners, designers and architects take their love of nature further by bringing in, and building in, parts of the outside.
