Problems for millions who have Leap Day birthdays

We all have those friends who try to make people guess their age and even though they may look like they are in their 30s, they tell people they are eight.

They can say this because they are born on a Leap Day and only actually have a birthday every four years on February 29th.

Worldwide there are just fewer than five million leapers and the odds of being born on the day are about one in 1,461, according to Raenell Dawn of The Honor Society for Leap Year Babies.

How to travel Europe on a budget

If you’ve ever tried to plan a trip to Europe, not only can it be expensive, but it can also be confusing.

Over the last month, I have been researching the cheapest way to see as many countries as possible in Europe during the next seven months. Budget traveling might mean having to make tough decisions – like living in a small 215 sq. ft. apartment in order to save money to afford travel – but if you’re willing to be   flexible, Europe can be done on a tight budget.

Here are some ways I'm  stretching my euros:

Public Transportation
Forget that taxis or rental cars. Buy passes for public transportation. They range  from day, weekly, and monthly passes. It's a fun and interesting way to see another city.

How waiters judge you (and how to use it to your advantage)

Every time you sit down at a restaurant you’re being sized up. It’s called “reading a table” and wait staff at fine dining and chain restaurants alike are trained in the technique, according to the The Wall Street Journal.

Beyond flair, and memorizing specials, a good waiter can anticipate the needs of a customer at a glance. At chain restaurants around the country that's what they're being trained to do. Servers at Denny's, T.G.I Fridays, and Romano's Macaroni Grill are now taught to pay closer attention to the subtle  gestures and understated remarks of their customers. The goal for servers is twofold: give the customer a better dining experience by predicting their needs, and ultimately get a bigger tip.

Why You Shouldn’t Always Cook with Olive Oil

Why You Shouldn't Always Cook with Olive OilFor the longest time, the only oil I bought was extra-virgin olive oil. After all, it's high in heart-healthy antioxidants called polyphenols and monounsaturated fats, which can help lower "bad" LDL cholesterol and raise "good" HDL cholesterol levels. Then a friend, who was also a chef, told me that there are actually times when olive oil is not the best choice. So I looked into the best uses for olive oil, and when to choose another oil.

Tired of being tired? You may be low in iron

Tired of being tired? You may be low in iron

Despite your best intentions to get in your workouts, if fatigue hits, it's hard to meet your resolutions. So if you are tired of being tired, you just might need to have your blood iron levels checked.

Iron is a master player in the body, leading the way for several important physiological functions, including transporting oxygen to your red blood cells and producing ATP, adenosine triphosphate production (ATP), which is essential for cellular energy. Low levels of iron are associated with fatigue, decreased athletic performance, concentration, mood and even hair loss or increased hair shedding.

7 New Weight Loss Rules

You don't need to go on an extreme diet or eliminate carbs entirely to lose weightYou don't need to go on an extreme diet or eliminate carbs entirely to lose weightIn the world of fantasy wish lists, wouldn't it be great if--instead of prompting us to snack all the time--our bodies would just use up fat we have already stored?

One major reason this doesn't happen has to do with our diets. When you consume starch and refined sugar, these foods enter the bloodstream quickly, causing a sugar spike. Your body then produces the hormone insulin to drive that sugar from your bloodstream into cells. But over time, excessive levels of insulin can make your muscle cells lose sensitivity to the hormone, leading to type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Your fat cells are another story: They always remain sensitive. Insulin spikes lock fat into them, so you can't use it for energy.

Before you Botox, try these five easy at-home tricks to fight aging naturally.

1. Wash With Oil: Sounds terrifying, right? But you should relax and try it if you have dry, weary skin, says Miami Beach dermatologist Leslie Baumann, M.D.: "Many natural oils contain linoleic acid, which helps skin retain water." Start with 10 ml of olive oil, says natural skin-care expert Sharon Gnatt Epel, then mix in 2 drops of one of these oils: carrot seed to boost elasticity, frankincense to restore skin tone, or lavender to calm redness. Massage it in for thirty seconds, then rinse with warm water. We promise, no morning-after acne.
