After a decades-long career filled with massive hits like "Bad" and "Thriller," you might think the late Michael Jackson had earned every award out there. Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and Blanket, 9, used their father's signature shoes and glittery glove to leave his hand and foot prints in the famous sidewalk, alongside those of Marilyn Monroe, Fred Astaire, and many more.

How Old is Too Old to Wear Short Skirts?
Left to right: Miu Miu, Milly and Forever 21

I turned another year older on Monday, and while it wasn't a big milestone birthday, the event itself still forced me to think about the passing of time and made me feel, well, older. Not older as in wiser, or more mature. or more accomplished somehow, but mainly along the lines of, "Wow, I'm really not a kid anymore." Then yesterday, as I was getting dressed for work and pulling on a pair of opaque black tights and a short-ish skirt — my typical winter uniform — I thought to myself, "Am I getting too old to wear short skirts?"

Jennifer Aniston Buys an Ultramodern L.A. Home

The pristine 8,500-square-foot four-bedroom was designed in 1965 by noted Los Angeles modernist architect A. Quincy Jones; after first hitting the market for $29 million in 2008, the house was reduced to some $24 million, at which point Aniston swooped in and scored it for even less: $21 million.

Food Expiration Dates 101: How Long to Keep Spices, Peanut Butter and Other Pantry Items

Food Expiration Dates 101

1. Most Dried Ground Spices
Unopened or opened: 2 to 3 years
When it comes to spices, fresh is best, but they should remain flavorful for up to three years. While spices do not spoil, anything older than three years will most likely be lacking in flavor, aroma and health benefits. Store in a cool, dark place away from direct heat or sunlight, closed tightly when not in use. To test when an herb or spice is still potent, rub or crush a small amount in your hand then taste and smell it. If the aroma and flavor is weak, it should be discarded.

Dutch teenager ends globe-circling solo voyage in St. Maarten

PHILIPSBURG, Saint Martin - Laura Dekker set a steady foot aboard a dock in St. Maarten on Saturday, ending a yearlong voyage aboard a sailboat named "Guppy" that apparently made her the youngest person ever to sail alone around the globe, though her trip was interrupted at several points.

Dozens of people jumped and cheered as Dekker waved, wept and then walked across the dock accompanied by her mother, father, sister and grandparents, who had greeted her at sea earlier.

Dekker arrived in St. Maarten after struggling against high seas and heavy winds on a final, 41-day leg from Cape Town, South Africa.

What Happens to Your Brain when You Exercise?

This is your brain on...exercise!

This is your brain on...exercise!

Getting your sweat on does more than just tone the outside of your body-it also causes a series of chemical reactions that help with everything from your mood to your memory. Learning what is happening in your brain can help you use it to your advantage.

1. A smarter brain. When you exercise you are stressing your body's systems. This mild stress starts a chain reaction to repair the damage by causing your brain to generate new neurons, especially in the hippocampus-the area in charge of learning and memory. These denser neural connections lead to a measurable increase in brainpower.

For first time in 50 years, scientists confirm discovery of rocks that fell to Earth from Mars

WASHINGTON - They came from Mars, not in peace, but in pieces.

Scientists are confirming that 15 pounds of rock collected recently in Morocco fell to Earth from Mars during a meteorite shower last July.

This is only the fifth time in history that scientists have chemically confirmed Martian meteorites that people witnessed falling. The fireball was spotted in the sky six months ago, but the rocks were not discovered on the ground in North Africa until the end of December.

This is an important and unique opportunity for scientists trying to learn about Mars' potential for life. So far, no NASA or Russian spacecraft has returned bits of Mars, so the only samples scientists can examine are those that come here in meteorite showers.

Does your happiness depend on where you sleep?

Does your happiness depend on where you sleep?

What side of the bed do you sleep on?

Me, I’m a right-side girl, at home or when sleeping over at a friend's or family member's house. I need to score that right-hand-side because I’m also a right-side sleeper who prefers to face out of the bed rather than into it. I don’t know why but I also don’t question it—it just works.

But perhaps my right-hand status is costing me some happiness. So reports an article in The Daily Mail that says those who sleep on the left-side of the bed are happier than us right-hand-side sleepers. Wait—what?

Zap Static from Your Hair

Sick of hair that goes up, up and away? These expert tips and products will help you fight flyaways. Here are three simple ways to get rid of static and achieve smoother, sleeker strands:

1. Skip a day between shampooing.

"Washing your hair every day strips away natural scalp oils, causing tresses to become dry and brittle-and more prone to flyaways," explains Jenny Cho, celebrity stylist for Suave Professionals. A 24-hour break allows these oils to build up again so they can tame staticky strands.

German Grandmother Lives Money-free and Has Never Been Happier

Most of us could go a day without spending any cash. But a week? How about sixteen years? That's how long 69-year-old Heidemarie Schwermer, grandmother of three, has lived without money. Schwermer's odyssey is the subject of a documentary film, Living Without Money, by director Line Halvorsen, which is screening internationally and is also available on DVD.

In 1996, Schwermer, a former schoolteacher and psychotherapist, decided to try to live without money for a year as an experiment. As a child she had experienced deep deprivation as a refugee fleeing from Russian forces during World War II. Her family had escaped what was then East Prussia and ended up in Germany "penniless." She has always felt a sense of compassion and empathy for the homeless community in the city of Dortmund where she settled as an adult.

Research finds water from Russian rivers increased water levels on Canadian side of Arctic Ocean

Global warming has focused a lot of attention on climactic changes in the Arctic but new research is pointing to another factor that may be affecting Arctic waters and global water flows.

Scientists are pinpointing a climactic phenomenon called Arctic Oscillation as the cause of an increased freshwater runoff into the Beaufort Sea from major Russian rivers.

An article in the Jan. 5 issue of the science magazine Nature points to a freshening of the Canada basin of the Arctic Ocean beginning in the 1990s and continuing until at least 2008.

How much should crime risk factor into a Mexican winter getaway?

The latest killing of a Canadian visitor to Mexico has again raised concerns about the safety of tourists in Canada's favourite winter getaway outside Florida.

Robin Wood, a retired mechanic from Salt Spring Island, B.C., was shot Tuesday while resisting robbers in a friend's home in the town of Melaque, near Puerto Vallarta.

So far, there are no reports of Canadians cancelling their Mexican holiday plans. A spokeswoman for Kelowna, B.C.'s airport said Wednesday all four of the day's flights to Mexican destinations were full, AM1150 radio reported.

5 reasons why TFSAs are a smart retirement investment

It took a couple years to work out the kinks, but tax-free savings accounts are proving to be a rabidly popular savings option for Canadians, with some financial advisers now recommending them over the stalwart RRSP.

Among the top reasons for the rise in popularity of TFSAs is their flexibility. Money can be pulled out without penalty in case of a financial emergency, TFSAs don't have to converted into a RRIF upon retirement, and they can contain a variety of different types of investments. Investors don't get an immediate tax break the way they do with an RRSP contribution, but investments inside a TFSA grow tax-free.

4 risky places to swipe your debit card

Debit cards are different

Would you give a thief direct access to your checking account?

No? Unfortunately, you may be doing just that by regularly using your debit card. Debit cards may look identical to credit cards, but there's one key difference. With credit cards, users who spot fraudulent charges on their bill can simply decline the charges and not pay the bill. On the other hand, debit cards draw money directly from your checking account, rather than from an intermediary such as a credit card company.

7 Surprising Habits that Raise Blood Pressure

Are your habits dangerously raising your blood pressure?

Are your habits dangerously raising your blood pressure?

Think you're doing right by your heart, but your blood pressure still won't budge? One of these common BP-raisers could be to blame

They call it the "silent killer" - silent because it has no signs or symptoms. High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, affects one out of three adults in the US, and women are about as likely as men to develop high blood pressure during their lifetimes. "One high blood pressure reading doesn't mean you're going to have a stroke on the spot," explains Richard Shlofmitz, MD, chairman of cardiology at St Francis Hospital, The Heart Center. "But when left untreated, sustained high blood pressure can lead to just that, as well as heart attack, heart failure, and kidney damage." And your numbers don't have to be crazy-high to be dangerous:

Milk intake in teens tied to later prostate cancer

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Older Icelandic men who remember chugging a lot of milk in their teens are three times as likely to be diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer as more-moderate milk drinkers, researchers have found.

That makes them wonder whether the years around puberty, during which the prostate matures, could be a time of heightened vulnerability for the gland.

"We believe that our data are indeed solid and provide important evidence for the role of adolescence as a 'sensitive period' for prostate cancer development," Johanna Torfadottir, a nutrition scientist and a graduate student at the University of Iceland, told Reuters Health by email.
